This is too beautiful to eat, but these cashew nut shondesh
is one of the yummiest desserts in south Asia. Although it has a shape and
color of an apple, but it doesn’t contain any apple sauce or juice.
The milk powder and cashew nut gives a very satisfying test
to this cashew milk peda.
In Bangladesh it is called milk powder shondesh, in India
and Pakistan, its known as kaju barfi / cashew barfi and milk powder peda. But
in whatever name you call it, the tasty & mouthwatering flavor is
completely worth the time and creativity for making this recipe.
So, Presenting the most satisfying milk-cashew sondesh recipe from the Kitchen of Shaheena Creations.
Just these few ingredients makes that beautiful Apple ShapeMilk Peda / Apple shondesh:
- Water ½ cup
- Milk Powder 1 cup
- Sugar 2 cup
- Cashew nut (unsalted) paste ¼ cup (***Substitute: Cashew Flour )
- Flour 1 cup
- Unsalted butter ¼ cup
Let’s start talking about the cooking process:
- Dissolve 2 cups of sugar in ½ cup of water.
- Bring it to a boil.
- Now add the milk powder and mix gradually.
- When there are no lumps visible, add ¼ cup cashew paste.
- Mix it until its well incorporated.
- Put the stove on lowest temperature.
- Once the paste becomes thick and smooth, add 1 cup flour.
- Keep mixing until well combined.
- Add ¼ cup butter and mix well.
- Take the pan off the stove and let it cool down completely.
- It becomes medium firm when cooled.
- Knead the dough to make it smoother.
- Make 3 portion of the cooled shondesh dough.
- Mix green and red food color and
- knead to spread the color evenly.
- Make small balls of white and red dough.
- Press firm with one finger to make little dip.
- Color the white balls with pain brush and
- food color to give various types of apple look.
- Take a small portion of green dough.
- Give it a funnel shape and cover it with cling wrap.
- Press with hand or roller to flatten like a leaf.
- Use a toothpick to draw leaf veins.
- Now place the leaf near the dip on apple.
- Take a clove and press it downward with leaf in the apple.
- It looks like an apple with a leaf and a stem.

- Repeat these steps and make all the apple sondesh.
